Workshop discusses means to bridge digital divide
Mysore: Topics on unique opportunities leading to unique solutions and economic gains in applying information and communication technology for masses for the entire community in general and business in particular were discussed at brainstorming session on the concluding day of the workshop on IT
The workshop which was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah yesterday is being organised by the Institution Engineers. Mysore Centre, in association with Infosys Technologies with Hewlett Packard. Intel and as patrons and Televital, Edurite and Vidya Vikas Educational Trust as sponsors.
Three papers were presented followed with interaction with the audience. Director Intel Jaideep Bose presented paper on rural development and what Intel has done in this direction. Direction EMS. HP Balaji Venkatesh elaborated on Kuppam experience which has brought under its umbrage a network in Kuppam of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh enabling the benefits of IT being reached to the villagers. The Government of Andhra Pradesh had encouraged this innovative measure.
CET Encore., Vinay Deshpande explained about the techniques of Simputer which is called as common man's computer and its usage in various facets which costs around Rs. Seven thousand.
A videoconference was also held with The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE). Vidya Vikas Educational Institution Chairman and Karnataka Industrial Co-operative Bank Chairman Vasu, Chairman IEI, Mysore. Prof. M.N.Shivaram and CEO Encore Vinay Deshpande participated along with California-based Kailash Joshi and sought venturing capital from TIE.
Former Chairman All India Council for Technical Education Dr. Ramegowda emphasised need for ICT for masses and experiments done in Maharashtra which has been a great impact on rural market.
P.S.Bhat Scientist E.NIC explained as how IT would help agricultural marketing.
