MEDITAC : December 2001 - Visit to Ecuador
In December 2001, Ronald Merrell, M.D., Stephen Cone M.D., Mr. Russ Hummel, and Pat Escandon, M.D., from Yale University, traveled to Ecuador to conduct fieldwork in the MITAC telemedicine test beds underway there. MITAC-developed Rapidly Deployable Telemedicine Unit (RDTU). The RDTU was integrated with web-based software developed by TeleVital, which was used for remote anesthesia monitoring by Lynn Gehr M.D., a VCU anesthesiologist. Read more »

Medical Data Can Be Accessed in Real Time Over World Wide Web with new computer software and compatible medical devices, physicians and patients can view vital physiological data in streaming real time over the Internet. This will allow, for example, a primary care physician to obtain a real-time consult on an electrocardiogram (EKG) reading from a cardiologist in a remote location, or for a patient with asthma to send their latest peak-flow reading to their physician for immediate analysis. Biofeedback Telemedicine : Summer 2001 - Here Now and Ready to Use
I am pleased to that the world's first "public" demonstration of a remote evaluation of "private" pelvic floor muscles was a smashing, resounding success! It worked flawlessly. TeleVital’s Internet software provided the biofeedback program all at the same time. The simultaneous video and audio were extremely valuable for observing patient postural shifts and other artefacts that would appear in the EMG graphs. For demonstration purposes, we used a "wireless" T-1 internet device at the convention hotel, but the same set up has been used with a 56K dial-up modem with good results. Read more »
