Govt committed to promote IT

Mysore, Sept 25: Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the JD(S)-Congress coalition government is committed to promote information Technology.
Speaking after inaugurating a workshop on Information Technology for masses at the Institution of Engineers here on Saturday, he denied that the IT industry is moving out of Karnataka for increase in sales tax from four percent to 11 percent in the Budget. Recalling the recent meeting with the IT giants, he said that an IT industrialist should bear the IT percent tax burden for eight more months as the Value Added Tax would come into effect from April 2005. he said that the VAT with uniform tax system would solve the problems. The government is relying on sales tax as 75 percent resources is spent on salaries, pension and debts repayment, he said. Siddaramaiah said that the IT industry should not be restricted to a particular class.
